Jim & Tim took two very different musical roads.
Jim Goodrich is a classically trained singer who holds a Masters’ Degree in Vocal Pedagogy. He has sung with the Grant Park Symphony Chorus and is the Founder and Head Voice of The Caroling Connection, Dickensian Carolers Who make Holiday Memories.
Tim Kennedy is a founding member of The Legends, a Chicago based classic rock band which was started in grade school and played throughout the Chicago area until they disbanded in 2015. Tim played lead guitar and was one of the two lead singers.
So how did two guys with such vastly different musical backgrounds ever get together? Strangely enough, karaoke. They both happened to be in the same place one night when there was karaoke and that’s how they met and got to know each other.
Fast forward to the summer of 2007 when Tim was part of another duo, Pete and Tim, and Pete wasn’t going to be able to make a gig. So Tim asked Jim if he could fill in for the show. And you’d think that would be it…But it wasn’t. That gig happened to be the 2007 Elburn Days. It rained that day. A lot. As the Daily Herald reported,
All other Sunday events were canceled, but again, people rose to the occasion.
Instead of playing only three hours as scheduled, entertainers [Jim] and Tim played for seven and a half hours at the beer garden, according to Al Lee, Lions Club treasurer and beer garden manager.
“Even though most of us were wet and muddy, we had fun,” Lee said. “A lot of my friends said it was the best Elburn Days ever.”
A seven and a half hour first gig. That pretty much sealed the deal. You see, the crowd got larger as the day went on and they wanted Jim & Tim to keep playing.
